We’re Number ONE; Google still winning the Search Wars

Once again, sot surprisingly, Google is on top of the Search Engine ‘hill top’. As reported by Nielsen/NetRatings on Friday, Google is still grooving along with a massive market share that, “processed almost 2.67 billion queries, or 49.4 percent of June's total,”. As always, Yahoo and MSN followed along (with 23 and 10.3% respectively) and made no inroads catching the behemoth that is Google.

What’s interesting as that many thought that with more focused marketing efforts by Yahoo, MSN and now even Ask.com, compiled with Google’s recent legal problems, that they were due to lose a little ground in the Search Wars. Apparently not. The AdWords department is also as strong as ever and, “fueling Google's impressive revenue growth and stratospheric stock price.”

Look out there’s a new kid on the block

I must say, there is an interesting development over at Ask.com (formerly Ask Jeeves). It seems they are, after concerted efforts, starting to make some headway on the Big 3. Looking at the ‘growth’ numbers from June, Ask was the leader with 66 percent more queries performed than in June of 2005. Google was second in growth at 31% and Yahoo at 29%.
I have seen considerable improvements in spidering and SERPs with Ask over the last few months and it is no real surprise. Will they compete for 3rd place with MSN (and soon Live)? Hard to say, probably not unless some pretty heavy ‘viral’ marketing sweeps them up the rankings, (remember FireFox?). Like a great athlete, the folks at Microsoft can ‘turn up the intensity’ marketing wise anytime they feel threatened. The close affiliation and tie in, with the worlds #1 Operating System is a pretty large obstacle to overcome to be certain.

So it’s Go-Go-Google search for the foreseeable future all is at it should be once again in the Search Marketing universe.
